Physical Education

At St. Peter's, we believe physical education is very important to one's well being.  We stress activities that are fitness-oriented and specifically designed to the level of the students' abilities.  Through movement activities, students learn about themselves, cooperation with others, achieving goals, and important information about being healthy.  We also stress the importance of safety and good sportsmanship in all of our activities.  Our Physical Education program encompasses a wide range of activities based on NY State Standards, including focuses the following per grade range:

Pre-K to 2nd grade:

Gross motor movements
Basic loco-motor skills
Ball skills
Hand-eye coordination
Cooperative activities
Fitness activities

3rd to 5th grade:

Individual and partner activities
Jump roping
Cooperative activities
Modified games
Lead-upgames
Fitness

6th to 8th grade:

Basketball
Volleyball
Soccer
Team handball
Hockey (pillow polo)
Baseball
Football activities
Fitness

Intramurals and interscholastic sports are extensions of the Physical Education program and provide a wide range of opportunities for all levels of ability.

We believe physical education should include the teaching of activities with lifelong leisure implications.
