The computer lab is open to all
students during the school day as well Students in Grades 1 - 2 build on math and reading programs, are introduced to the correct keyboarding skills, along with an introduction to the Internet and age- appropriate sites. Grade 3 focuses primarily on keyboarding. Grades 4 – 5 complete a unit each on the Microsoft suite tools of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with Internet use and a reinforcement of keyboarding skills. The Middle School builds on Excel and PowerPoint, is introduced to Access and Microsoft Publisher. Web quests and Internet scavenger hunts are included to correlate with the information being taught in their other classes. Grade 8 creates Web pages and is responsible for creating a memory book of their years here at St. Peter’s. All students are introduced to Internet ethics and safety. In addition, students in Grades 5 and 7 complete an Internet safety course using the i-SAFE program. Lessons are geared to coordinate with New York State Learning Standards, the NETS standards and the Diocese of Buffalo curriculum. St. Peter’s is equipped with an automated library system, which is open to all students before school and during the day. Students are encouraged to select-age appropriate books and may take up to 4 books per week depending on their age level. All students received at least one library class per week. Lessons focus on how to use the library and research skills. The primary unit focuses on stories of all kinds including: story telling, chalk talks, and cut and tells. |
